Hybrid tower light hire

Battery-powered for most of the night, a short engine run to recharge. Quiet enough for a campsite, clean enough for a welfare area, and the fewest fuel visits of anything we hire.

Light without the drone

A hybrid tower runs its LED heads from a lithium battery pack. A small diesel engine starts only when the battery needs charging, runs for a short while, and stops.

Our hybrid is the Trime X-Eco Hybrid Lithium 6x100: up to 11.5 hours on battery, a three-hour recharge, 455 hours between refuels. The practical difference from a conventional diesel tower is that for most of the night there is no engine running. No noise reaching the houses over the fence or the tents around the unit, no exhaust near a welfare cabin or a catering tent, and no wondering whether it'll run dry at 3am. On a long hire the engine runs a fraction of the hours a diesel set would, so the tank lasts many times longer and we visit far less often.

That's why hybrids are our first recommendation anywhere people sleep, anywhere a site borders housing, and anywhere sound matters — festival campsites, residential construction boundaries, town-centre night works, film unit bases. They cost a little more to hire than a straight diesel unit and pay it back in fewer complaints and fewer visits.

  • Near-silent on battery — engine runs only to recharge
  • Recharge cycle can be timed for breaks or quiet hours
  • Minimal fumes near people and cabins
  • Far fewer refuelling visits on long hires
  • Same towable trailer and mast as a diesel unit

Where hybrids earn their keep

Three situations where we'd choose a hybrid without being asked.

Next to housing or tents

Residential boundaries, campsites, glamping

The noise complaint that stops a night shift or sours a festival is usually a generator, not the light. A hybrid removes it.

  • Construction sites in residential streets
  • Festival and event campsites
  • Town-centre night works

Welfare and crew areas

Cabins, catering, unit base

Fumes near people eating and resting are unwelcome. Hybrids run clean for the hours people are there.

  • Site welfare compounds
  • Film and TV unit bases
  • Event crew and catering areas

Long unattended hires

Security lighting, remote sites

A unit that only runs its engine a few hours a night needs refuelling a fraction as often — less cost, fewer visits, fewer chances to run dry.

  • Car park and yard security
  • Vacant premises
  • Remote compounds

Hybrid tower light questions

Is a hybrid tower light completely silent?

On battery, yes — nothing is running. The engine starts for a short period to recharge the pack, and that can be timed so it doesn't land when it matters, such as during a take or in the small hours.

How long does the battery last?

Our hybrid unit, the Trime X-Eco Hybrid Lithium 6x100, runs up to 11.5 hours on battery at full output, then recharges in about three hours. A full winter night on battery is the norm. See the full specification.

Does it still need diesel?

Yes, for the recharge engine — but only 0.11 litres an hour averaged across the cycle. The 50-litre tank lasts 455 hours between refills, around six weeks of nightly use.

Is a hybrid more expensive to hire?

Slightly more per unit than a diesel LED tower. Over a longer hire the reduced refuelling usually makes up the difference, and on a noise-sensitive site it's the difference between working and not.
